The Volta River is a river, primarily flowing in Ghana, that drains into the Atlantic Ocean at the Gulf of Guinea.
One of the important landmarks in Ghana today is the Adomi Bridge. The Adomi Bridge was built across the Volta River at Atimpoku up north of Senchi in 1956 to ease the burden of travellers.
Once upon a time Akosombo was once known as Nkonson-konson-bo (a chain of rock). That was the name given to the little known settlement by its inhabitants, who in 1733, had settled at the foot of the gorge formed by the Akwapim and Togo mountain ranges.
